November 19th, 2009

The Fall Show is here! Tomorrow is a big day for many ISA members, with rehearsals running all day and then of course, the show at 7:00pm! Bring all your friends and family for a night that will not be soon forgotten. Also, don't forget to come celebrate with all the participants at the Afterparty, starting at 10:30pm in the Orpheum Lobby. The Show, as always, if FREE and completely open to the public. The afterparty is $5 until 11:30pm, $7 after. If there are any last minute questions regarding the show, please email varao@wisc.edu, as this email is checked several times a day.

Get excited! Show off your hard work! And of course, have a blast tomorrow at the Fall Show: Nightmare on State Street!

November 8th, 2009

With the Fall Show right around the corner, it was good to see all the awesome acts coming together; everyone had lots of enthusiasm, great music and choreography, and the Fall Show is definitely going to be an amazing collaboration. Don't forget, the theme this year is "Nightmare on State Street".

We also have the final line-up determined. The agenda is as follows:
1. UW School of Bhangra
2. Manmohini Dhadkan
3. ΒΧΘ
4. Yashna
5. Bollywood
6. Fashion Show
--Intermission--
7. Michael Jackson Tribute
8. Nisha/Bindiya
9. AshishVik
10. Wisconsin Surma

The act names in this schedule are of course temporary. As such, we require that all final act names (and any information relevant to the Fall Show program) be submitted to joinISA@gmail.com by Thursday, November 12th. Also, please submit an mp3 of your final cut of music, as well as lights and costume info no later than Sunday, Nov. 15th. Also, if anyone is interested in being a part of the skits that will be performed between acts, please email varao@wisc.edu.

Only 2 weeks to go people!

October 20th, 2009

Friday night's Garba and Diwali dinner went very well as planned. We hope you all enjoyed the music and food, the latter of which was catered by Spice Yatra and we will likely be working with them in the future. Though your illustrious webmaster was out of commission for the garba, it was still an all around good time. YES!+ presented a promo about their program for reducing stress at the garba, and we hope that many of you signed up for it! If you're still interested, contact Varun Prabakhar at prabhakar@wisc.edu.

Additionally, this past Sunday we had our first tryouts for the Fall Show. Everyone did amazing at tryouts and we congradulate everyone who put the time and effort in to create an act. The theme of the Show has been decided as well: it will be a horror film/campfire ghost story set around a legend about a group of campers who mysteriously went missing... desi style of course! Anyone who is interested in putting together the skit or wants to be an MC for the show and hasn't already signed up, you can email joinISA@gmail.com. Also, MC tryouts will be held next Sunday (October 25th), time/location TBA.

Get excited folks! Fall Show is only a month away!

October 7th, 2009

Thank you to all who attended out first General Body Meeting of the year. For those of you who weren't able to attend, here's a quick recap of everything that went down:

Fall Show information
- 1-minute tryouts are to be held Sunday, October 18, from 6:45 to 9:45pm, location TBA (check TITU). To sign up for an audition slot if you haven't already, email joinISA@gmail.com with "Fall Show Tryout time" in the subject line. Before this, you must have an Act Submission Form turned in (email narayan2@wisc.edu with your information if you didn't sign up at the GBM), and you must also have a list of songs for your act emailed to joinISA@gmail.com to avoid conflicts.
- Full rehearsal for Fall Show will take place on November 8th in the Red Gym, from 7pm to midnight. More information about time slots will be released soon, but for this rehearsal, you must have your entire act ready to show to the judges. Additionally, for this rehearsal you must have a master cut of all music to be compiled to a master CD.

That's all for this update, don't forget about our Garba and Diwali Dinner next Friday the 16th in the Multipurpose Room of the SAC. We'll be holding a workshop from 6:00 to 6:30 for all of you whose dandiya raas skills are... well, lacking. Get ready to get down to some bhangra, garba, raas, and of course, there'll be awesome food as well! We're gonna do it big this year and you don't want to miss it!

October 4th, 2009

Our first ever Gandhi Day Dinner and Food Drive, held this past Friday, was quite a success! The Board would like to thank everyone who donated nonperishable food or made a cash donation for the food pantry. All in all, we collected three full grocery bags of food items and $75 cash to donate to Second Harvest in Madison. Additionally, ISA has decided to match the cash donations of its members, so in the end over $150 is going to feed the needy! Great job everyone, and thank you again!

Don't forget our General Body Meeting this Wednesday at 7pm! Everyone interested in being part of an act for Fall Show MUST MUST MUST attend this meeting. There will be sign-ups sheets for audition slots, stage crew, and it's also a great way to find additional members for your act. Everyone is encouraged to come!

Also, for those who have submitted and application for Outreach Chair, the interviews will be held after the GBM starting at 8:15.
